At first sight, Soggy Bottom consists of about 65 acres of pasture, forest, and a seasonal wetland with two stock watering ponds. Upon closer investigation: geologic soil types, subtle topography, seasonally changing plant cover and water flow across the property all provide the basis for endless observation and study.

We initially felt overwhelmed by the sheer vastness of the main field upon moving here. Since then, our appreciation for the uniqueness of the many facets of this property has grown. We have still so much to learn, and the lessons keep coming - seemingly always with their own unexpected timing.
